Japan's only organic certification
Domestic Rice Ethanol from Organic Rice
The alcohol used in Hand Refresher is organic rice ethanol, which is fermented and distilled from JAS organic brown rice grown in Oshu City, Iwate Prefecture. We chose this ethanol because it is the only certified organic ethanol in Japan* and, like Hippopotamus towels, it is safe to use.

By-products such as rice malt lees, which are inevitably produced in the manufacturing process, are used to feed chickens and cows. This means that we produce zero waste. Another important feature of our ethanol is that it is traceable. Anyone can obtain information not only on the date and place of production of ethanol itself, but also on when, where, and by whose hands the rice used as raw material was planted and harvested. Organic & traceable cosmetic ingredients are rare in the world and almost non-existent in Japan.
